Lucas Bonates' Bio
Pastor Lucas comes to us from Margate, FL where he has been serving as the Lead Pastor at Cokesbury United Methodist Church. He is passionate about outreach, hospitality systems, and community presence. Prior to Cokesbury he served as an Associate Pastor at First UMC of Coral Gables where he led the Hispanic ministry, supported the youth program and supported a Brazilian church-plant in the First UMC of Miami.
Originally from Brazil and fluent in English, Spanish, and Portuguese, Pastor Lucas holds a Master of Divinity from Asbury Seminary and is currently exploring further studies in church leadership. In Brazil, he worked as a journalist and realtor. Lucas is married to Thaís Bonates, and together they have a daughter, Luna.
He and Thaís have a long history in serving as lay leaders in music ministry. He enjoys spending time at the beach, traveling with his family, playing guitar, and relaxing with video games. Lucas believes in the power of grace-filled community and is excited to serve alongside the leadership at Lake Deaton to support the vision God has for this next chapter.
