Operation Christmas Child

Operation Christmas Child is a project of

Samaritan's Purse, that is currently

working in more than 100 countries to

provide aid to victims of war, disease,

poverty and famine.

Since 1993, Operation Christmas Child., the

world's largest Christmas project of its kind,

has collected more than 168 million

shoeboxes packed with fun toys, hygiene

items and school supplies. In 2018 a

staggering 10.8 million shoeboxes were

collected worldwide in the United States,

Canada, United Kingdom, Australia,

Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Finland,

Spain, New Zealand and Japan. Last year

8.8 million shoeboxes were filled in the U.S.

alone.

How do I know what to pack in my shoebox?

A detailed "How to Pack a Shoebox" brochure is included with every shoe box that tells what can be included as well as what is not acceptable.

Can I pack more than one shoebox?

Absolutely! You can fill as many shoeboxes as you wish. By filling additional boxes, you are providing more gifts for children in need who may be receiving a gift for the first time in their lives.

Is there a cost for the shoeboxes?

The shoeboxes are free, but a $9.00 donation is requested by Samaritan's Purse to help defray the cost of collecting, processing, shipping and distributing the shoeboxes.

Can I select where my shoebox is sent?

The goal is to collect and distribute millions of shoebox gifts in over 100 countries this year. Because of the tremendous growth of Operation Christmas Child, the logistics of collecting, processing, and distributing the boxes prevent them from designating the destination of your box. You can be assured that whoever receives your box will need and appreciate your gift.

Can I find out where my shoebox is sent?

Yes! You can Follow Your Box and discover the destination of your shoebox by making the $9 donation per shoebox online, which provides for collection, shipping, and delivery. Just print and attach your unique shipping label to your shoebox gift.

How does "Follow Your Box" work?

After you complete a $9 donation online through Follow Your Box, your label will be displayed on the payment confirmation page and delivered to you via email. Print the label as many times as you need to affix each shoebox you pack with one of these special labels. Mark boy or girl and the age group range on each label according to the shoebox's contents and attach the label to the shoebox gift. The Follow Your Box label is connected to your email address through a number, so it's important to include the label on each of the shoe boxes you pack. The barcode enables Samaritan's Purse to scan shoeboxes during processing and record their shipping status and country destination in our Follow Your Box look-up tool. There, look up the information for your shoeboxes according to your number or the email address you used to donate to Follow Your Box.

Do I need to include $9 in each shoebox in addition to attaching a Follow Your Box label?

No, the label indicates that the $9 donation per shoebox, which provides for collecting, shipping, and delivery, already has been donated on line through Follow Your Box.

Who receives the shoeboxes?

The boxes are distributed to boys and girls around the world affected by war, poverty, natural disaster, famine, and disease; and to children living on Native American reservations in the U.S. in partnership with local churches who distribute shoebox gifts at festive outreach events where the Good News is clearly presented.

Do the children receiving the shoeboxes get anything else?

A Gospel booklet titled "The Greatest Gift" is available in more than 75 languages. Where it is allowed, this booklet is given out with shoebox gifts around the world. With the Apostle John as narrator, the booklet shares 11 Scripture stories and invites children to follow Christ.

What happens after my shoebox gift is delivered?

Local ministry partners for Samaritan's Purse distribute your shoeboxes to children in their communities. After receiving shoebox gifts, many boys and girls are invited to enroll in The Greatest Journey, our 12-lesson discipleship program. Through the program, local ministry partners are able to establish long-term, caring relationships with children and families by sharing the love of Jesus Christ. As a result of what they learn, boys and girls grow in Christ and share Him with others. Families are reached, churches grow, new churches are started, and communities are transformed.
